In South Florida, the summer storms come on fast -- the sky turns purple and dark while the sun is still hitting the palm trees, and the colors in that moment are extraordinary. In the lower left, a composite of every bloom remembered from a childhood there radiates outward like a firework, dark petaled and fully open. Yellow, green, magenta, and blue fill the rest of the canvas with the exuberance of a tropical afternoon mid-storm.
